The Government on Saturday consulted with experts on socio-economic management in the coming months.

The participants noted that the implementation of the Government’s Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP dated on February 24 has brought back positive signals. The economy expanded at 5.6% in the first half of 2011 and total export turnover in the first seven months increased 33.5% against the same period last year. Other positive signals include falling inflation, rising retail sales and foreign arrivals.
The experts, however, pointed out some shortcomings and weaknesses, including high inflation rates and interest rates.
They stressed the necessity to further realize the Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP which was designed for curbing inflation, stabilizing macro-economy, and ensuring social welfare.
All administrative measures relating to financial, monetary, banking fields need to be reviewed to remove all outdated ones, experts said, adding that the Government should expand control over operations of commercial banks to secure the safety of the banking-finance system.
They also suggested the Government continue developing policies to assist agriculture production and business community, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
More measures also need to be adopted to spur export and control export and public investment should be further strengthened.
In the long term, Vietnam, as experts proposed, should change growth model with priority placed on stable development.

Speaking highly of the experts’ frank and heartfell ideas, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that the Government is determined to pursue the targets defined in the Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP.
The Government will prioritize “inflation curbing”, unbind difficulties for businesses, and allocate more resources for social welfare, the Government chief stressed.
 At the same time, economic restructuring will also be taken into consideration, in which, restructuring public investment, State-owned enterprises, banking system, institution will be done first.
Prime Minister Dũng also asked ministries and sectors to be all ears to experts’ proposals.
Mass media was recommanded to publicize widely advantages and disadvantages of the economy in a bid to create widespread social consensus for better implementation of the Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP.
