Vietnam has set a typical example for other countries in realizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, Ms. Pratibha Mehta said.

Ms. Pratibha Mehta, who has recently taken the post of UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, made the statement when presenting the Letter of Credentials to PM Nguyen Tan Dung on November 4.
She said she would make strong efforts to further strengthen the relations in various fields between Vietnam and the UN’s agencies, and enhance the UN’s support for Vietnam to continue implementing the MDGs.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung spoke highly of the role of the UN’s agencies in Vietnam. He said Vietnam still remains a poor country though it has gained significant socio-economic achievemtns over the past time.
Vietnam always needs the international community’s assistance to maximize its internal strength, the Government chief said.
He hoped that the UN’s agencies would coordinate closely with Vietnam in implementing the joint action plan for 2012 – 2016./.
