Vietnam, Germany step up cooperation

(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung had a meeting with former German Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, President of the Asian Bridge Association Andreas Scheuer and the German Young Business Association in Hanoi on September 29.

Minister Dung voiced his delight at the Vietnam-Germany relationship and stressed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the ties with Germany, one of its leading partners in the Europe.

He took the occasion to thank the country’ support for Vietnam over the past time, especially in the field of human resource development and their caring for the Vietnamese community.

He said that the two countries’ trade and economic cooperation remain modest, as Germany ranked 18th among 143 nations and territories investing in Vietnam with 462 projects, mainly in manufacturing and processing industry, and information and communication, worth 2.56 billion USD.

The minister said, Vietnam eyes selective foreign direct investment attraction and prioritises developing science-technology, innovation, research and development, health, and green, digital, knowledge and circular economy.

There are ample rooms remains for Vietnam-Germany cooperation, asking the two countries work closely to come up with specific projects to bring mutual benefits.

Minister Dung proposed German enterprises seek investment opportunities in the Southeast Asia nation, and affirmed that his ministry will always creates the best possible conditions for foreign investors, including those of Germany, to operate efficiently and sustainably.

He also suggested the two sides coordinate in implementing coordination programmes in personnel training, promoting technology cooperation, strengthening the partnership between business associations, and creating conditions for Vietnamese businesses to improve their competitiveness and participate in the regional and global production and supply chains.

For his part, Andreas said various German enterprises are interested in Vietnam’s investment environment. The Asian Bridge Initiative programme aims to foster Germany-Vietnam cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and infrastructure, including transport ones, labour, cultural exchange, and knowledge and technology transfer.

He also agreed to continue to deepen investment cooperation partnership in order to lift the two countries’ ties to a new height.

The guest expressed his impression on Vietnam's economic growth as well as its potential and opportunities to promote cooperation in the areas of Vietnam’s demands and Germany’s strengths.

Both sides agreed that the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and German is at the finest development stage, and they also agreed to continue to boost economic cooperation, expand markets and investment, promote innovation, and human resources development/./
