It is also within the framework of the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Exhibition 2024 (SEMIExpo Vietnam 2024).
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Tam stated that Vietnam is entering a new era - the era of the nation’s rise as outlined by Party General Secretary To Lam. The country put focus on promoting digital transformation, green transition and developing science-technology and innovation in order to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality and economic competitiveness.
The national 2021-2030 socio-economic development strategy has identified three strategic breakthroughs of institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, associated with restructure the economy, renew the growth model and promote growth based on science, technology, innovation and cultural values of the Vietnamese people.
He said Vietnam has proactively implemented numerous specific solutions to attract investment and promote the comprehensive development of the innovation ecosystem, creating an environment conducive to research and development and the application of science and technology. The country encourages and prioritizes selective investment attraction aimed at high-tech projects, including semiconductors.
The deputy minister stated that to realise its commitment to developing the semiconductor industry, the Prime Minister has approved the national semiconductor industry development through 2030, vision to 2050, setting an ambitious goal of bringing Vietnam become a leading semiconductor research and develop (R&D) center in the region.
Vietnam wishes not only to participate in the global value chain, but also to build a semiconductor ecosystem, becoming self-reliant and sustainably in this field. The programme on developing human resources in semiconductors also aims to train at least 50,000 engineers and workers with bachelor's and higher degrees in all stages of the semiconductor value chain by 2030.
