Deputy Minister Phuong spoke highly of the AIIB’s continuous operation expansion, important achievements and growing role as a development bank that supply capital to meet the infrastructure development demand of developing countries such as Vietnam. He expressed his hope that the president’s visit will bring opportunities for cooperation between the two sides, especially in infrastructure development.

The AIIB President praised Vietnam's considerable contributions to the bank’s establishment and activities. With a mission to build a prosperous Asia based on sustainable economic development and regional cooperation and address developing challenges, the bank has 109 members (including Vietnam), representing 81% of the world population and 65% of global GDP. To date, AIIB has approved 274 projects worth of 53.5 billion USD for 37 member countries.

He shared about AIIB’s orientations to support Vietnam’s development in the coming time while affirming that the country holds great potential for sustainable development. The bank will continue to provide financial resources for Vietnam to implement green infrastructure projects towards sustainable development and connectivity.

The deputy minister fully agreed with the cooperation directions outlined by the bank president and said, its priorities of green infrastructure, connectivity and regional cooperation, technology-enabled infrastructure and private capital mobilisation are very close to Vietnam’s needs.

He also proposed the bank consider allocate resource for Vietnam to develop high-speed railways, seaports, airports and new industries. The MPI stands ready to coordinate with the AIIB to effectively operate in the country and connect potential businesses for infrastructure investment./.
