Minister Nguyen Chi Dung welcomes Samsung vice general director

(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung asked Samsung to continue cooperating closely with his ministry to assist Vietnam in semiconductor human resources training, while hosting Vice General Director in charge of device solutions and Chief Financial Officer of Samsung Group Kim Hong Gyeong in Hanoi on September 13.

Minister Dung lauded Samsung’s production and business activities over the past time that contribute significantly to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

He informed his guest on the development of semiconductor industry in Vietnam, saying that the Government is currently drafting the strategy for developing the industry, building mechanisms and policies like the draft decree on the establishment, management and use of an investment support fund to encourage investment in  hi-tech projects, semiconductor, artificial intelligence (AI), research and development centers, and focusing on building human resources development programme for semiconductors.

A national steering committee on semiconductor industry development is also established. Minister Dung said that as the standing deputy head of the committee, he and his ministry will research and give recommendations to create the most favorable conditions for potential enterprises, including Samsung, to participate in advancing Vietnam’s semiconductors.

The minister asked Samsung to continue coordinating with the MPI’s National Innovation Center (NIC) to effectively carry out the human resource development programmes reached at the cooperation agreement between the two sides, thus realising the goal of of training 50,000 engineers by 2030.

He hailed the company, as a leading strategic investor, for its contributions to the local community and the country’s economic growth, and at the same time affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always accompanies and creates all favorable conditions for investors, including Samsung to invest and operate sustainably and successfully in Vietnam with the spirit of "harmonising interests and sharing risks".

Kim, for his part, shared with Vietnam over the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi and sent condolences to the Vietnamese people suffered from this storm.

He informed the minister on Samsung’s investment situation recent times and their operation plans in the time ahead, adding that as the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, Samsung pledges to accompany the country in its sustainable development path.

Samsung will continue investing in R&D development and hi-tech sectors, implementing human resource training to help Vietnamese businesses integrate deeper into Samsung’s and global production value, and contribute to the host country’s development./.
