Promoting science, technology and innovation in Vietnam's new era

(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnam Innovation Network in Europe (VINEU) and Vietnamese experts in promoting Vietnam’s innovation activities in recent times, especially their contributions to the development of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), while attending the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s working session with the VINEU in Prague on January 19 afternoon (local time)

Minister Dung said that the network will be the core force actively contributing to promoting science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam during the new era, an era of national rise.

He also shared some orientations and the current state of science, technology, and innovation development, as well as the growth of breakthrough industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) in Vietnam. These include policies and orientations for the development of science, technology, and innovation; the development of the semiconductor and AI industries

He noted that the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has engaged with leading global tech corporations to expand investment and shift supply chains to Vietnam, develop research centers, and scale up investment, business, and manufacturing in Vietnam.

On this occasion, Minister Dung urged the VINEU members and overseas Vietnamese experts in the Czech Republic to maximise their connections in the host country to bring the greatest benefits to the nation, no matter how small, thereby channeling resources for the national development.

He also called for strengthened connections with leading global experts, institutes and universities, businesses, organisations, investment funds, and other suitable resources that can support Vietnam in carrying out innovation and startup activities.

The minister put forward them to continue connecting with global tech corporations and major partners to explore investment opportunities, expand business, and conduct research and development activities in Vietnam.

Representative of the VINEU and Vietnamese experts and businessmen in Europe shared experiences and proposed recommendations for Vietnam to develop a number of key areas such as cooperation in AI and digital technology between France and Vietnam; human resource development cooperation in the fields of semiconductors and medical technology, and development trends in the world’s health science and some cooperation projects  between Germany and Vietnam; medical cooperation and expert exchanges between the Czech Republic and Vietnam; building a bridge for technology and knowledge between Hungary and Vietnam.

Speaking at the working session, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spoke highly of the MPI’s efforts in forming and developing the Vietnam Innovation Networks, as well as the active contributions of network members and Vietnamese experts in Europe.

He suggested the network’s members to continue strengthening connection with the NIC, actively contribute opinions and participate in building guidelines, institutions, mechanisms and policies, attract and mobilise maximum resources such as public-private partnership, taking advantage of direct and indirect investment, promote research and technology transfer, and promote human resource training and management capacity improvement.

Prime Minister Chinh also asked them to contribute to the current priority goals of economic growth, through renewing traditional growth drivers such as investment, export, consumption, and promoting new growth drivers like digital economy, green economy, circular economy, creative economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy, emerging industries such as semiconductor chips, AI, cloud computing, Internet of Things.

He assigned the MPI and relevant agencies to continue contacting network members, intellectuals, and Vietnamese experts abroad and concretising programmes, ideas, and proposals./.
