Consultations with int’l organisations and consulting firms on Vietnam’s national spatial master plan
(MPI) - The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam jointly held a conference in Hanoi on July 26 to gather opinions from international organisations and consulting firms on the draft national master planning for the 2021-2030 period, vision to 2050. According to Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong, the National Master Plan is the highest planning of Vietnam, aiming to concretise the country’s socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period and rearrange the national development space based on the country’s potential and strengths, in order to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

The MPI has received active support of the WB in Vietnam and consultants on the draft national master plan and organized some conferences with domestic and foreign experts.

“We wish to receive opinions from international organisations, consulting firms and international experts on key issues of the draft national master plan, notably the development trend of the region and the world; requirements in the new context; national development space, national infrastructure framework and development orientations of some key sectors and areas”, said the deputy minister.

Carolyn Turk, WB Country Director for Vietnam pointed out the need to finalize the master plan such as development priorities to achieve high economic growth and become upper-middle income countries.

Carolyn underlined that it is important to have decisions and opinions of the sketch of the national development master plan; identify which sectors that public and private investment will boost to maximize future productivity. Vietnam should provide investment orientations to attract investment, helping to achieve the goal of becoming a developed country with high income by 2045.

Tran Hong Quang, Director of the Vietnam Institute for Development Strategies, under the MPI informed on the draft national master planning for the 2021-2030 period, vision to 2050 and said the master plan aims to create an efficient national development space, form motivation regions and promote linkages between regions and localities, which will effectively use and mobilise resources to improve the country’s competitiveness.

International experts and consultants commend on the draft master plan, urbanisation strategy of Vietnam, development orientations of the national urban system included in the draft planning and share some international experience. They also exchanged views on development corridor and interregional and international connectivity./.
