The minister spoke highly of JBIC’s supporting loans for Vietnam to carry out crucial and effective projects, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development. He also hailed JBIC’s policy in supporting other countries in energy transition to adapt to climate change.

He said Vietnam has made commitments to adapt to climate change, achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and become a high-income developed country by 2045. This is a challenge for Vietnam, he held that however, with its self-reliance and cooperation from foreign partners, including Japan and JBIC, Vietnam will accomplish the goal. The country wishes to receive resources and favorable conditions from JBIC for development not only in renewable energy but also in infrastructure development.

Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP 8) paves way for renewable energy and opens up opportunities for the development of wind power, especially offshore wind power and clean electricity. It also takes into account the replacement of coal-fired power. The minister hoped JBIC will continue to support the country with more preferential loans.

Minister Dung emphasised that Vietnam supports and encourages Japanese businesses to invest in Vietnam with new projects. Vietnam has become an attractive destination for investment, and it is anticipated that there will be more high-added value projects in the near future through JBIC. He asked JBIC to further support Vietnamese businesses to build industrial park infrastructures in high technology; develop supporting industrial parks and an eco-industrial park.

Agreeing with the minister’s proposals, Nobumitsu hailed Vietnam as a top priority of JBIC and its goals and commitments. He promised that JBIC and Japan will actively partner with Vietnam in climate change response and set-targets.

There are many Japanese enterprises wishing to do business in Vietnam, he added, and hoped the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue to support and create favorable conditions for Japanese firms to promote investment cooperation, especially those on public-private partnership (PPP) investment. JBIC had done a survey to collect Japanese businesses’ feedbacks to increase investment activities, contributing to intensify Vietnam-Japan partnership.

On the occasion, Minister Dung and JBIC Governor Nobumitsu witnessed the loan agreement exchange between JBIC and Sumitomo Group on the expansion of Thang Long Industrial Park 2 (TLIP 2)./.
