Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong receives Ambassador of Norway to Vietnam
(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong hosted a reception for Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Solbakken in Hanoi on November 3.

Deputy Minister Phuong spoke highly of the positive development in the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Norway, affirming that Norway has been a reliable partner of Vietnam. He expressed his impression of Norway as one of the leading countries in developing green economy and renewable energy.

Sharing Vietnam’s actions to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the deputy minister said that the Vietnamese Government has developed a number of solutions and policies, including the National Green Growth Strategy aims to renew the growth model towards greening economic sectors. The Government also built new economic models like digital transformation, circular economy, and set out priority areas such as energy conversion and green agriculture.

He informed the newest draft National Power Development Plan VIII (draft PDP 8) has taken into account the replacement of coal-fired power projects, encouraging the development of renewable energy, wind power and solar power.

Deputy Minister Phuong hailed Norwegian largest energy firm Equinor, has sought investment opportunities and planned to develop offshore wind power projects in Vietnam; suggesting the two sides continue to coordinate and do research in line with Vietnam’s policies and strategies.

Vietnam welcomes Norway’s efforts to promote international cooperation on climate change, and wishes to strengthen coordination with Norway in this promising are. Phuong asked Norway to share experiences with Vietnam by resuming governmental visits and holding trade and investment promotion activities to attract Norwegian companies to invest and do business in the country.

Norwegian Ambassador pledged utmost to foster Vietnam-Norway relations in the coming time, emphasising that both the Norwegian Government and businesses closely follow the PDP 8 in order to provide an effective roadmap for cooperation, contributing to the country’s development.

She shared Norway’s experience in developing green growth, renewable energy and offshore wind power. Solbakken said, there are 38 Norwegian firms operating in Vietnam and supporting the country’s green energy transition, proposing both sides work closely to leverage cooperation in climate and renewable energy project./.
