(MPI) - To prepare for the 45th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, on the afternoon of January 10, 2022, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos cooperation committee and Vice Chairman of the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee Viengsavanh Vilayphone co-chaired a senior official meeting within the framework of the cooperation committee between the two countries.

The meeting aimed to assess the implementation of the agreement on the 2022 cooperation plan and discuss the direction of cooperation in 2023. The two sides also exchanged views on the draft contents of the agreement on the 2023 cooperation plan and the meeting minutes to be submitted to the two Prime Ministers at the 45th session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation.
Viengsavanh Vilayphone acknowledged the results of the cooperation plan between the two countries in 2022. Notably, the two sides have focused on promoting cooperation in politics, diplomacy, defence, security, economic cooperation, education and personnel development; regarding economic cooperation, Vietnamese ministries and sectors, especially the Ministry of Planning and Investment have actively shared experiences on management solutions and macroeconomic stability with Lao sides.
Phuong emphasised the orientation of cooperation between the two countries in 2023, suggesting to focus on the implementation of the two Politburos’ direction, the Joint Statements and the High-Level Agreement of the two countries; and continue to implement the 10-year cooperation strategy for the 2021-2030 period and the 5-year cooperation agreement for the 2021-2025 period.

The two sides should continue to consolidate political-diplomatic relations; forge cooperation in national defence and security; build a peace, stable and comprehensive Vietnam - Laos border line; strengthen the connection between the two economies and promote investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; prioritise and promote quality of education-training and human resource development; continue to renovate the mechanism and improve the effectiveness of aid.
Phuong believed that, on the basic of traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two peoples, the two senior delegations will carry out effective and positive solutions to propose to the two Prime Ministers./.
