(MPI) - The steering committee of the “Eco-industrial park development in Vietnam - approach to global eco-industrial parks programme” project organised a meeting in March 9 to review its implementation in 2022 and set a plan for the following years. The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

MPI Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc said, the project has made great efforts to support the building of policies for the development eco-industrial park model, and provide technical assistance for converting traditional industrial zones into the eco-industrial parks.
The deputy minister asked UNIDO and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) - sponsor of the project, continue with their financial and technical support, share experience and accompany the MPI and other ministries and localities in building eco-industrial parks model.
She also called on stakeholders coordinate to finalise legal regulations and standards for the implementation of industrial symbiosis, and to build model eco-industrial parks and then spread the model across the country, the official added.
The MPI thanked the Swiss Government, through SECO, and UNIDO for supporting the project implementation, in which bring various benefits, help state management agencies and businesses raising their awareness and capacity of industrial zones and the ecological model.
Werner Gruber, Head of Cooperation at SECO, spoke highly of the project achievements in establishing a working group to implement effectively the Decree No. 35/2022/ND-CP, and organising many meetings, trainings to share experiences in eco-industrial park development.
He affirmed that the Swiss government and SECO stand ready to support Vietnam in the implementation, and will work closely with the MPI and other relevant ministries and agencies in preparing the next phase that meets Vietnam’s demand and priorities in developing eco-industrial parks.
The UNIDO side also expressed their hope to further assist Vietnam in expanding eco-industrial parks, adding that the next phase will focus on building and perfecting policies to remove barriers to promote more eco-industrial parks.
UNIDO will help Vietnam design new standards for eco-industrial parks, access green financial resources and ensure sustainability in terms of institutions and resources for management agencies, she said.
Participants shared a number of challenges and obstacles facing during the project implementation, set forth the needs and conditions of the private sector and businesses to independently develop eco-industrial parks, suggested mechanism for industrial symbiosis, and exchanged experiences and international practices to promote eco-industrial parks in Vietnam./.
